From Bean to Brew: What’s Inside Your Bag of Coffee?

We frequently get questions about the differences between beans, roasts, and grind types. That's why we've put together this guide to empower you to choose the best options for your next cup.

Let’s break it all down.

First Things First: The Beans

We currently offer two types of Arabica coffee beans.

Regular Arabica
This is the classic coffee bean most people are familiar with. Each coffee cherry typically produces two flat-sided beans. Arabica is loved for its smooth body, gentle acidity, and balanced flavor.

Think dependable, comforting, and perfect for everyday sipping.

Peaberry Arabica
Peaberry is a natural rarity. Instead of two beans forming inside the coffee cherry, just one small, round bean develops.

Why does that matter? Many coffee lovers feel peaberries roast more evenly and deliver a slightly brighter, more concentrated flavor. It’s a favorite for folks who enjoy a little extra character in their cup.

In short:
Regular Arabica is smooth and balanced.
Peaberry Arabica is brighter, bolder, and a bit special.

Roast Levels

We keep our roast options focused on the two most loved profiles.

Medium Roast
Medium roast is where the bean’s natural flavor still shines.

You can expect smooth, balanced taste, subtle acidity, and notes that reflect the bean itself, not just the roast.

This is a great choice if you enjoy a well-rounded cup that’s flavorful without being overpowering.

Dark Roast
Dark roast goes deeper, bringing out richer, bolder tones.

You’ll notice fuller body, lower acidity, and smoky, chocolatey, or caramelized notes.

Perfect for anyone who loves a strong, robust cup that stands up beautifully to cream or milk.

Grind Options (How Your Coffee Is Prepared)

Your grind matters more than most people realize. It directly affects flavor, strength, and how your coffee brews.

Whole Bean
Best for maximum freshness. Grind at home right before brewing for the most aromatic, flavorful cup. Great if you have a grinder and enjoy being hands-on with your coffee ritual.

Ground
A classic, all-purpose grind that works well for standard drip coffee makers and pour-over setups. Easy, convenient, and ready to brew.

Espresso Grind
Extra fine and designed specifically for espresso machines and moka pots. This grind helps create that rich, concentrated shot with beautiful crema.

Single-Serve Grind
Tailored for single-serve and pod-style brewers, including reusable pods. It’s balanced to flow properly through these machines while still delivering great flavor.

Choosing the Right Grind for Different Brew Methods

Not every coffee maker works the same, and matching your grind to your brewing style makes a big difference in taste. Since we offer whole bean, ground, espresso grind, and single-serve grind, here’s how to choose the best option for popular alternative preparations:

French Press
Best choice: Whole bean (coarsely ground at home)
If you have a grinder, go with whole bean and grind coarse for French press. This prevents bitterness and keeps sediment out of your cup. If you don’t have a grinder, regular ground will still work, just expect a slightly bolder, heavier brew.

Pour-over (Chemex, V60, and similar methods)
Best choice: Ground
Pour-over shines with a medium grind, which is closest to our standard ground option. It gives you a clean, bright cup that highlights the coffee’s natural flavor.

AeroPress
Best choice: Ground or Espresso Grind, depending on your style
AeroPress is flexible. Use ground for a smooth, balanced cup, or try espresso grind if you like a stronger, more concentrated brew.

Cold Brew
Best choice: Whole bean (coarsely ground at home)
Cold brew loves a coarse grind. Whole bean is ideal here. Grind coarse at home, steep overnight, and enjoy a low-acid, super smooth coffee the next day. In a pinch, regular ground works too. Just shorten your steep time slightly.

Moka Pot / Stovetop Espresso
Best choice: Espresso Grind
For moka pots and stovetop brewers, espresso grind gives you that rich, bold, café-style cup.

Feel like a coffee connoisseur yet? Good, because you are!

Happy brewing!
